Attestation / legalization
Attestation & legalization is a process of authenticating the documents issued in one country and intended for use in another country in order to be recognized as valid in foreign country.
The documents are first verified and authenticated by respective Home Department / HRD and then authenticated by Ministry of External Affairs and then it is submitted to the Consulate for final attestation. (For some consulates the authentication form Ministry of External Affairs is not required)
In case the documents are supposed to be submitted in the country which is a member of Hague Convention then separate embassy attestation is not required. The document will be first verified and authenticated by respective Home Department / HRD and then apostilled by MEA.
